I had a weeknight feed at Aisuru Sushi with a friend last week and it got me frothing, so naturally I had to blog about it. I would have to say every sushi roll I have had at Aisuru has been delicious to eat. But at my latest visit two rolls stood out to me or.. the glasses of wine I drank enhanced my pallet.
First was the Ultimate Philli Roll!
Ultimate Philli Roll: Cream Cheese, Cucumber, Topped with Seared Salmon and Red Onion, Drizzled with Mayonnaise and Unagi Eel Sauce – $10
The thing that smacks you in the face about this roll is the charred smoky flavour of the salmon. The salmon was grilled with a kitchen torch enabling the smoky flavours. The mayonnaise, cheese and cucumber complimented the salmon well leaving the salmon to be the star of the show.
The other roll that stood out to me was the Dragon Roll!
Dragon Roll: Tempura Prawn and Cucumber, Topped with Unagi Eel, Nori Flakes, and Drizzled with Unagi Eel Sauce – $11.50
My friend and I were “full” until we saw the chef make one of these rolls. The glutton in me said I had to eat it. The roll had a prawn that was deep fried to perfection with a crunchy coating that penetrated the moorish sushi rice. That, along with the smoky torched eel is a winning combination. We were contemplating what makes this roll “a dragon” we came to the conclusion it was the prawn tail as dragons have tails.. we did have a couple of glasses of wine by this point.
The sushi counter creates an excellent backdrop for some serious bokeh in the pictures I took from my iphone 6, as can be seen in the other delicious dishes we had below.
Karaage Chicken – $9.50. Just when you thought I would write a post omitting fried chicken!
Spider Roll: Fried Soft-Shell Crab, Cucumber, and Lettuce, Drizzled with Wasabi Mayo – $11.50
Caterpillar Roll: Unagi Eel, Cucumber, Topped with Avocado and Fish Eggs, Drizzled with Aioli and Unagi Eel Sauce – $10
